It's been a while since I've thrown up a shred photo because there's been so many other announcements that needed to get out. In fact, we have a bunch of cool ones lined up, but I thought I'd slip in this adorable blunt from Mike on the Unnatural. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Sometimes We Get A Bit Uppity.
Maybe it's too much coffee, or maybe I'm just a bit distracted. I'm not sure either way, 'cause I wasn't really paying attention. Sometimes this leads to us to posting the wrong pic. The pic in the last post was not of Konstanze. This one is; Konsti on the left, and Unfamiliar head honcho, Matthias, on the right. Agents by nature, Unfamiliar is taking Automaton into deep Europe. Europe's getting early snow, too
Pre-season snow conditions seem to be hitting all sorts of places already, and shreds are crawling out of the woodwork to get some. Konstanze with the Unfamiliar crew from Stuttgart has been getting some shred time on the glacier at Hinterlux. He is in love with his Oddball. They are going to run away together. Pre-Season
It's that time of year when shreds are heading back to the hills. Nate has returned to full-time lurking in Breck, living the life, patiently waiting for snow, and couch surfing. Hey, if anyone has an extra room to rent, send us the info and we'll pass it along! That's Nate in the pic. Sure he likes the High Life, but why not let him into your hearts and home? We're part of the Burton "family"?
On the B's website showing their company photos, what's this? A pic of an Automaton Mixed Signals? Yes, it's there. I didn't realize Burton was backing us. Or is it us that's backing them? Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours? Hey, thanks for the exposure, B. Click here for the direct link. Thanks to Mike for the tip. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Welcome to the Unfamiliar
Here's a novel retail strategy: how about stocking shred products that aren't in every other shop? Hopefully you can feel the sarcasm, 'cause I'm laying it on pretty thick. Matthias Schweiker and crew at the Unfamiliar in Germany have been banking on this strategy for years and that's how they run their shop. Now with Automaton on board! Here's a link for those that Deutsch sprechen. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Tables Turned
The interviewer has become the interviewee. Shay gets some attention from ESPN, and in the process Automaton gets a wee mention towards the end. Too bad we didn't get any proper nouns in there, especially since I know Colin from his days as editor of Future, but screw the politics. Click the pic, or click here to peep the article. Taka be FINE
While the print media in the states isn't doing so hot, the land of Japan is still pumping out a myriad of mags over a wide range of topics and I don't mean those girlie soft core ones that are freaking everywhere. There's FINE that focuses on shred fashion, and in their latest issue, Agent Taka (and a 09/10 Time Fighter!) is featured in a cross-training article pushing wakeboarding, 'cause I guess not everyone heads south of the equator or to camp to shred over the summer. But you gotta stay in form to do work when the snow hits this winter. Click here to peep more FINE. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Creeping up on Shayboarder
Fact: Many (not all) shred mags won't run editorial on a brand that doesn't purchase ad space. It seems that much consumer and industry-level snow news is left up to the bloggers to report. Here's a profile piece by Shayboarder, one of a handful of bloggers who do what media was supposed to. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

The News
I'm definitely stoked on the recent uprising of shred bloggers. I don't mean the guys that drive up to the mountain, then write about the trip as if anyone cares and call themselves journalists. I mean the bloggers and new online/print publications that are consistently out-scooping the traditional mags in terms of NEWS. On one part, it's easy to get the jump on the mags since they generally lay out their April issue before New Year's. At the same time, a lot of bloggers clearly put a lot of effort into getting the real out there for us to read. To see what I mean, peep Angry Snowboarder, Boardistan, Shayboarder, Rider Tech, 4 Snowboarding, Pop, Blisss, The Mustachio. Sorry if I missed anyone this round, I'm sure I'll be updating this list frequently as quality snow bloggers are seriously popping up left and right, giving the mags a run in content quality. Also, if you're in Costa Mesa on the 30th, cruise by World Gallery to check out the "Things That Kill..." show by Chad Carothers and Alex Funderburk! Snowboarding Saves Lives!

SMK + Automaton = 110% Summer Radness
SMK snowboard camps and Automaton are proud to announce a partnership through Agent Distributions in Spain. Beginning summer 2009, campers will be able to shred with SMK's highly regarded program at Les 2 Alpes (France) and Saas Fee (Switzerland), and also score their very own Automaton snowboard!

"We are super excited to be participating with SMK this summer. Eduardo and company have a great thing going and Automaton is looking forward to being part of it. Our combined vision will make the camp experience that much better and bring positive exposure to Automaton in Spain. Ultimately we aim to foster snowboarding fun, creativity, and a culture we can be proud of." - the Wootang, Automaton.

"SMK is absolutely stoked to work with Agent Distributions and Automaton snowboard this summer. We can't agree more with Automaton's core values about snowboarding: being young, different and creative and above all... having fun. This is what SMK camps been all about since we were born 6 years ago!" - Eduardo Perez-Reyes, SMK

Manmosa
The L.I.Z. and i cruised down to Mammoth yesterday to check out the PB&RJ finals, shmooze a bit, and also drop in on the brothers Anklam to see what's new. Other than showing me i have the cardiovascular fitness of a 90 year old, Brent let us in on his bevy of choice, the Manmosa. It's like a regular mimosa, the same OJ and champagne, but probably also infused with Chuck Norris sweat. Brent fights fires, so he can drink whatever the hell he wants. (PS. we learned that Jerod survived a spinal menigitis attack when he was 16. So we know WI breeds them Anklams tough.) Snowboarding Saves Lives!

The Bigger Bro, and B4BC
Secretly, Brent wanted to be the bigger brother, or at least the taller. Ok, I made that up, but the brothers Anklam just got back from a trip to the Jack Hole, scoring quality pow which is what I wish I could be doing right now but Tahoe seems to be storm-proof this season. These 3-inch "dumps" just aren't cutting it.

Tonight, April 11, 7pm, Joowana in Maple Falls, WA, 3rd Annual Boarding 4 Breast Cancer Benefit Show featuring Acorn Project, food, drinks, good times, fond memories, prize raffles including a 100% genuine Automaton shred board, and of course support for B4BC's prevention program. We all like music, we all like drinks, we all like boobies, so come out to support and have a good time! Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Very Verde
would be his name in Spanish, but Agent Green speaks Russian. Apparently wooden jibs are the rage in Russia. Often, wooden jibs look like death to me. But death is black, not Green. Wow, the coffee is making my fingers spit out pure poetry. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Does the P in Joe P stand for politics?
At the end of every season, shreds are looking for summer jobs to hold them off until the next winter. I know Joe P is lurking in LA, I've been referring to him as Hollywood Joe lately. But Google tells another story. Apparently Joe is looking to be mayor of Atlantic City. Really? I didn't know he was so political! Check out his campaign here. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Less Metal, More Mang
7 weeks in, the doc says my collarbone has healed enough to pull the rod out. It wasn't the most pleasant experience, I guess there were some sort of "challenges" in grabbing the rod due to scar tissue and such. I didn't know doctors used tools referred to as "wrenches" on patients (at least live ones), but in the end he got the job done and I now have a really expensive stainless steel reminder to avoid plasticy jibs that've been sun baking all day. As a bonus, L.I.Z. got the whole operation on vid! Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Giving Sack
The flurry of entertaining fan mail continues, and I love it. Another happy shred in Europe's phenomenal snow season writes: "Thanks for truly transforming my season!! I luckily managed to pick up one of your boards, (mixed signals,154), and it totally rocks and has transformed my style, and technique and has given me some extra balls!!", proving a certain colored bovine might give you wings, but Automaton gives you sack! Agent Green
Could this be the elusive agent Green? Our man in Moscow? Caught on (digital) film? Rumor has it that Green has been recruited for his skills in snow shredding to help lead the Automaton insurgency in Russia. Future photographic evidence will reveal the truth. Snowboarding Saves Lives!

Rusty Husky
At Automaton HQ, we get our fair share of fan mail, sponsor-me "aka gimmie free crap" letters, and such and such. One of the latest is also the most unique. "I can't tell you how much I love my Independent, the ride is amazing. I'm kinda weird and like to dress up in animal costumes. I went to Copper Mountain Colorado and shredded it for a week." Upon futher investigation, homie says "Just to give you some background, I only did that once ever and only for a couple of runs. Just wanted to get some pictures wearing it and watch people's facial expressions as I pass! Other than that, I think I am pretty normal. Full time car mechanic, ride BMX, and eat with a knife and fork." Heck, I say rock the husky! I just saw some kid at the supermarket dressed as batman, and it's not even halloween. What's the difference between a sports fan dressed in colors and jerseys, people biting the style of the rapper of the month, comicon attendees dressed as super heroes, and a dude as a husky? Answer: not a whole lot. The reality is people can wear whatever the hell they want so long as they rock it. Let the husky run! Snowboarding Saves Lives!
